Day and Date: Monday/Tuesday Oct. 26 - 27, 2020           

Title of Assignment/Task: Wave Properties Review

Learning Intention: Upon completing this lesson, students will be able to:
1) Describe properties of waves, including wavelength, frequency and amplitude.
2) Give examples of these properties and how energy is transferred in earthquakes, light and sound.

Standard: 8.PS4.1  Develop and use models to represent the basic properties of waves including frequency, amplitude, wavelength and speed.

 Instructions: (1)   As a group, students will review and discuss Newton’s 3rd Law and properties of waves. (30 minutes).

(2) Students will complete a Properties of Waves Escape Room activity. (30 minutes)

(3) Students will complete study Newton’s 3rd Law study/Properties of Waves study guide. (30 minutes)

Day and Date: Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020                                                      Title of Assignment/Task: Electromagnetic Waves Project

Learning Intention: Students learn the basics of the electromagnetic spectrum and how various types of electromagnetic waves are related in terms of wavelength and energy. 

 Standard: 8.PS4.2  Compare and contrast mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves based on refraction, reflection, transmission and absorption and their behavior through a vacuum and/or various media.

 Instructions: (1) Go to Clever and log into Mastery Connect.  Students will take CPA 2 in Mastery Connect. (30 mintes)

(2) Students will work in groups to complete their “Electromagnetic Waves Project”(60 minutes)

 

Day and Date: Friday, Oct. 30, 2020           

Title of Assignment/Task: Electromagnetic and Mechanical Waves

Learning Intention: Students learn the basics of the electromagnetic spectrum and how various types of electromagnetic waves are related in terms of wavelength and energy. 

 Standard: 8.PS4.2  Compare and contrast mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves based on refraction, reflection, transmission and absorption and their behavior through a vacuum and/or various media.

 Instructions: (1) Students will work in groups to complete Electromagnetic Waves Stations activity (60 minutes)

(2) Students read the passage “How Do Sunglasses Work”  to learn about the scientific and mathematical concepts around electromagnetic light properties that enable the engineering of sunglasses for eye protection.

(3) Students will answer questions related to the reading passage.
